Diwali falls on October 23rd this year. Diwali is known as the festival of lights in Hinduism. Diwali is a beautiful festival because it spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair. It is a festival that brings so much joy and happiness in people.
In Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania where I grew up, Diwali was taken very seriously. I remember all my friends would say that their moms were busy in the kitchen preparing sweet and savoury dishes. Us kids would participate in Diwali Card and Rangoli Competitions where as our moms would participate in Aarti and Mithai Competitions. Good ole fun days!
Since my family has now moved to North America, I make sure I follow the Diwali traditions each year. The same traditions I followed back in Dar-Es-Salaam.
Whatever you decide to do on this Diwali, my well wishes are with you. I hope this Diwali brings a lot of happiness and good health in your life. Enjoy with your loved ones.
Happy Diwali and A Prosperous New Year!! Eat lots of Sweets :)
Warmest Regards,
Mittale
